However, you cannot cross-connect the disk drives and other devices: SCSI devices must be connected to an Adaptec SCSI card, ATA devices must be connected to the ATA controller, and so on. The default termination setting for a channel is Automatic. This setting allows the SCSI card to adjust SCSI termination automatically, depending on which connectors have SCSI devices attached to them. You might want to manually terminate the SCSI card if an Adaptec SCSI Card is connected to one or more external SCSI devices that are also connected to a SCSI card in another system. Terminated Device Maximum Cable Lengths The total length of cabling (internal and external) on the SCSI bus cannot exceed the maximum lengths listed in the following table. The third column lists the maximum number of SCSI devices you can connect to the SCSI card. The actual Open Box product may differ in packaging and included accessories, but has been tested to ensure basic functionality. It backs up and verifies 180GB of data in under 2 hours, as compared to about 7 hours in our 2003 server with a U320 PCI-X card. Although not officially supported, the Server 2008 drivers available at Adaptec's site work fine on Windows Server 2012 R2.Has drivers for Windows 7. Although it's an Ultra320 card, it seems to work fine with legacy SCSI-I devices as long as you have the right cable.A web search shows other people have the same problem. It seems the card is trying to perform BIOS operations, and since Macs only emulate BIOS (they really run EFI), the card hangs the boot. But performance is still good. Pricey for no RAID. Will need floppy drive to install with fresh XP install. All were used to install with no IRQ or PNP problems. Run SCSI because business reliability. Not sure why others experienced PNP issues or installation issues. SCSI 320 drive becoming scarce but still my pref.Been using this setup for about 6 months now with no problems. However.see cons.Adaptec is a great company, and newegg as always delivered as promised.Having this card as a PCI-E x1 device is great, however I am assuming since it is a non-raid card it was meant for use with devices for quick storage on a SCSI solution. If you try this in RAID 0 through a software RAID setup, it will bottleneck. You simply cannot get the throughput on a PCI-E x1 slot for this sort of application. Not really a con for the board itself, just writing this for anyone who plans on using it the same way I did. At first I thought it would be better to do this instead of using a SATA II hardware RAID 0 setup, but it wasn't when it came to real world results. It uses a PCI-e 1x slot.I've RMA'd the mobo, replaced the video cards, swapped the PS - no joy. Eventually this card was the only piece of original hardware left.

The system locked up and refused to boot, generating tons of SCSI failures. I yanked the Adaptec, stuck in a 6 year old LSI PCI card, and BINGO. NO ERRORS, no problems, no lockups. It's a waste of money; worse, it will cause you days of downtime while you jack around with every other piece of hardware in your system. Avoid it like the plague. It's a shame; I still use an old Adaptec 2940 UW card and it's rock solid. The driver you need is on the CD in the obvious directory.Click here for more details. Secure shopping made faster. adaptec 2810sa manual

Now I have read on the internet that some folks have said that they've been able to have two (2) 2TB hard disks installed and mirrored, but I couldn't get that to work. They may be confused and have a newer adapter (2420SA, 2620SA, or 2820SA) as they don't have either of the above restrictions, and really should be the choice for anyone looking to create a large RAID array with the larger SATA drives available now. All in all this card allows someone to have a high quality hardware RAID for very little money. Just make sure your system has the PCI-X bus, and remember about the size limitations.Nearly all motherboards that feature SATA raid actually use software raid. The Adaptec controller detected the lost drive and automatically began rebuilding the array when a hot spare was available. The controller behaved exceptionally well, even though the DE400 enclosure does not support the SAF-TE enclosure management protocol. After replacing the drive, the controller can be instructed to manually rescan its SATA ports for new devices, thereby avoiding the need to reboot. The controller can grow an array by expanding it onto unused space on additional disks not already in the array. For example, if you have a four-disk array using 80-GB disks and want to expand that array, you could add four 250-GB disks and use 80 GB on each new disk to expand the existing array. In contrast, if you build an 80-GB array on four 250-GB disks, you cannot expand that array in place; the only way to expand an array is to add a disk to the system, even though space may be available on the existing disks in the system. We discovered that the controller can rebuild any array into a different RAID-level with no data loss so long as the new RAID level uses equal or less disk capacity than the old array. We built a RAID on four 80-GB Maxtor disks and then added four more 250-GB disks to the system, expanding the original RAID to include the new disks. In a traditional RAID system, we would have lost 170 GB of disk space on each disk we added to the volume. The 2810SA, however, allowed us to use the remaining space to build an additional array. This feature helps customers cope with the rapid evolution of SATA disk technology. But it comes at a price: If you choose to create multiple RAID volumes on a single disk using this feature, you increase your risk of data loss should multiple disks in the array fail. That means your tech staff can spend less time on mundane chores and focus their attention on more pressing matters. What you need to assess is whether this storage option fits your current needs.

Do you know if there is opensource driver (either in stock 2.6 kernels or standalone). I think if there is, it won't support RAID (only JBOD), but that's fine for me. I just want to be sure that I won't have problems installing it, before I actually buy this server. ThanksPersonally I like hardware RAID. Even on modern systems (which can handle this very well), it does sap cycles. Have to admit though the option of transfering RAID sets between machines of differing hardware is one very nice plus point in software RAID. Admittedly a decent backup strategy can offset this capability. Th embedded controller should work fine as a JBOD. If you look at my other post (that you responded to) I ahve just recapped and added my lspci output and experiences of the box and Linux. Although not used Debian on it, should be fine as the controller needed no extras added to the standard FC5 kernel I used. DanThere are two advantages: 1) CPU - calculating parity 2) bandwidth - in software RAID data for all disks must go through the PCI bus. For HW RAID only one copy goes to the controller.I have exactly the same problem. Regards, MarcusYou can download it from: Just follow the instructions. MarcusThanks for the info. I haven't managed to get it working as of yet, but now I know its possible with the new firmware version, will give it a go. ATM I am using the onboard controller (JBOD) and have used mdadm to RAID them. Not optimal since I have a perfectly decent (and working SATA2 RAID card that won't work in this server. Won't get past POST. The SATA controller I'd like to use is an Adaptec 2820SA (Adaptecs compatability report, ( ) says it is compatible) with the hardware. Have to say am disappointed. I'll try the HP support number but am not holding out that much hope. Think I'll just have to wait for a firmware upgrade or similar. Dan The system and OS have to do all RAID stuff, not the card itself. I know HP has some binary kernel modules which do support the RAID functionality. But as it is in reality only some pseudo-hardware RAID, I prefer to use drives as JBOD and create software RAID in linux. I'm using debian, so trying those binary modules for redhat kernels is a pain.

You can use drives of different sizes in a RAID. However, during a build process, only the smaller drive can be selected as the source or first drive. 5. When migrating from single volume to RAID 0, migrating from a larger drive to a smaller drive is allowed. However, the destination drive must be at least half the capacity of the source drive. 6. It is not recommended that you migrate or build an array on Windows dynamic disks (volumes), as it will result in data loss. Warning: Do not interrupt the creation of a RAID 0 using the Migrate option. If you do, you will not be able to restart, or to recover the data that was on the source drive. 6 Drives attached to the controller must be initialized before they can be used in an array. Caution: Initializing a disk overwrites the partition table on the disk and makes any data on the disk inaccessible. If the drive is used in an array, you may not be able to use the array again. Do not initialize a disk that is part of a boot array.Warning: Initialization will configure the drive(s) as simple volume disk(s).If an array Build or Initialization process is interrupted or critical with one member missing, you must perform a Rebuild to get the array to the Optimal status. For a critical array Rebuild operation, the optimal drive is the source drive. Note 2: If you do not have a spare array, and your hard disk drive fails, you need to create a spare before you can rebuild an array.

To Rebuild an array: 1 From the Main Menu, select Manage Arrays (as shown in the screen below). To boot your system, a bootable hard disk drive must already be installed on a different SCSI card or IDE card. Every SCSI hard disk drive connected to you SCSI card must be physically low-level formatted, partitioned, and logically formatted before it can be used to store data. Adaptec provides the highest quality SCSI cables designed specifically for use with Adaptec SCSI cards. For purchasing information, visit the Adaptec Web site at www.adaptec.com. The table lists the available and default settings for each SCSISelect option. Allow it to boot to a DOS prompt. The SCSI Card 2906 is set at ID 7, which gives it the highest priority on the SCSI bus. You should not change this setting. Leave the setting at Yes if two or more SCSI devices are connected to the SCSI card. If only one SCSI device is connected, slightly better performance will be achieved if you change the setting to No. If the utility finds bad blocks on the media, it prompts you to reassign them;. Note: If the driver is not listed or is not loading properly, see the troubleshooting suggestions on page 22. Continuing from Step 5 on page 13: 6 Insert your SCSI Card 2906 CD into your CD-ROM drive, then click OK. The Copying Files window appears. Before you install the Windows NT driver from the embedded list, download either the latest Microsoft service pack or the Adaptec driver file 7800wnt.exe from the Adaptec support Web site at www.adaptec.com. From the SCSI Adapter list, select the driver you wish to install. The SCSI Card 2906 belongs to this family with its AIC-7850 SCSI integrated circuit chip. Verifying Driver Installation SCSI Card 2906 driver installed. If the SCSI Card 2906 is listed, the driver is loaded. (Expanding the plus sign next to the adapter displays a list of the devices connected to the SCSI card.) How can I get the system to start so that I can verify that the SCSI card is functioning normally? 1 Start or restart your computer. View the messages that appear. The SCSI Card 2906 software driver is disabled and isn’t loading. To enable the driver: 1 Double-click the SCSI card software driver in Device Manager. For information on downloadable drivers, refer to the Adaptec Web Site at. Go to the Drivers section for more information on how to download the correct driver. Note: Do not use an IRQ below IRQ 9 for a SCSI Card 2906. Do not allow the SCSI Card 2906 and another card to share the same IRQ. The SCSI card is also identified by a SCSI ID. For the SCSI Card 2906, SCSI IDs are numbers between 0 and 7. SCSI ID 7 has the highest priority on the SCSI bus; the remaining SCSI IDs descend in priority from 6 to 0. Use SCSI ID 0 for the first SCSI hard disk drive. Most internal SCSI hard disk drives come from the factory set to SCSI ID 0. The method for terminating a SCSI device varies. Refer to the SCSI device’s documentation for instructions on how to enable or.

To do this, follow the instructions in the Microsoft docu- mentation. (Chapter 4 of this Installation and Hardware Guide also has instructions for installing Windows NT and the other AAA-131CA software.) If you plan to boot from an array, make sure the array is already created. To begin driver installation, see either Installing the Driver When Installing Windows NT below, or Installing the Driver When Windows NT is Already Installed on page 4-4. Select Adaptec Array1000CA Family Adapter from the list of SCSI adapters, and click Install. At this point, Windows NT Setup checks if the specified driver (in this example, cda1000.sys ) has already been copied to the system disk. In the Install Driver window, click the Have Disk button. Insert the Adaptec Array1000CA Family Manager Set drivers diskette into drive A; enter the following path to the installa- tion files and then click OK. Instructions for using these utilities are included. Most SCSI disk devices are preformatted at the factory and do not need to be formatted again. The Adaptec Format Disk util- ity is compatible with nearly all SCSI disk drives. Caution: A low-level format destroys all data on the drive. Array Adapter SCSI Termination—This option sets termina- tion on the AAA-131CA adapter. The default setting is Auto Mode. This means the adapter will detect whether internal or external SCSI devices are connected to it and whether they are Wide or Narrow SCSI devices. Normally, you should leave the Initiate Sync Negotia- tion setting enabled, because most SCSI devices support syn- chronous negotiation and because it allows for faster data transfer. When set to Enabled, the AAA-131CA BIOS is installed, and all Int13 devices are supported. When set to Disabled, the AAA-131CA BIOS is not installed. The default setting is Enabled. Also, verify that the drive or array has been selected as the boot-first.

This Installation and Hardware Guide explains how to initially install the AAA-131CA adapter, create the first array, and then install the supporting software. The Array1000 Guide, which is also included with your array adapter, explains how to use the supporting software to create and manage additional arrays. You may find it helpful to refer to this figure while installing your adapter. 68-pin Internal SCSI Connector 68-pin Wide External SCSI Connector Figure 2-1. AAA-131CA Major Components. Secure the adapter bracket with the screw you removed in Step 3. If the LED has a two-position cable, connect the cable to pins 1 and 2 of the LED con- nector, as shown in Figure 2-4. Up to 15 SCSI devices can be supported on each SCSI chan- nel—either 16-bit devices alone or a combination of 16-bit and up to seven 8-bit devices. If you are connecting 16-bit internal SCSI devices, attach one end of the 68-pin cable to the 68-pin internal SCSI connector on the AAA-131CA adapter. Connect an available DC power cable (from your computer’s power supply) to the power input connector on each SCSI device. Connecting External SCSI Devices For each external SCSI device, you must obtain a high-quality external cable with a single-ended impedance range of 80-110 ohms. Array Enclosure. We recommend that you leave each channel on the AAA-131CA adapter at its default setting of Auto Mode (the termina- tors are enabled or disabled according to the SCSI connectors in use). Note: If you need to configure the SCSI options (for exam- ple, ID, Parity Checking, and Termination) of your system after the AAA-131CA adapter is installed, see Chapter 5, Configuring the AAA-131CA Adapter with SCSISelect. 2-15. Follow these steps to create an initial array with the ArrayConfigCA Express Setup. (You can probably complete the Express Setup pro- cess by simply following the simple instructions that appear on the screen.) You can also press the keys until the option is highlighted and then press Enter.

The setup included the PCI Adaptec 2906, a SCSI 50 pin ribbon cable and a 1.3GB SCSI MO internal drive. I followed your instructions and after rebooting the drive was online in Windows 10. Reading and writing was very good if not better than years ago. I loaded the 2940 drivers. I also can confirm SCSI still works on linux. We had a Workstation running Opensuse Tumbleweed that had two 300GB SCSI drives. That was less than 2 years ago. Next time I will try to mount one of the 300GB drives on Windows 10. I followed your instruction to the letter. Unfortunately, when I give the location of the djsvs.inf and the djsvs.sys files, Windows 10 (64 bit) tells me that it does not find any driver. Any idea what is wrong? The Adaptec 2940 card is listed exactly like in your screenshot above, i.e. as “SCSI Controller” with the exclamation mark. All three downloaded and unzipped files are in my folder: djsvs.inf (18KB), djsvs.PNF (8KB) and djsvs.sys (87 KB). Please let me know if I can assist with any additional information. It appears to me that the system refuses the “unsigned drivers” although I went through the procedure in your step 2. It could be you have a version of the 2940 series that isn’t supported, or something else on you system is blocking the install. I’ve added some more screen shots to show the later steps so you can confirm how far you get. My configuration: IBM Thinkstation S20, Win 10 Pro 64bit (1703), Adaptec AHA-2940UW PCI SCSI adapter. Thank You. My AHA-2940U2W has another chip set, and I could not solve the problem. With the new card, the patch is working. Windows 10 would not re-boot and I had to re-install everything Any additional information you can provide would be helpful so that others can avoid the issue. After the driver was installed my DDS tape drive was listed as a cassette drive at the top of the device list. If updating the driver does not work try installing the driver manually by right clicking on the file “djsvs.inf” to install it.

Thanks. I am backing up with tape and not accidently wiping out my files again !!!. Any suggestions from anyone? I followed the instructions and it worked great to install my Adaptec scsi card (AHA-2940) but windows 10 can’t (or won’t recognize my HP Scanjet 4C). I tried with VueScan x64 but it is not working very well because it identifies the scanner as HP Scanjet 6100, it seems that an update has to be done. Did Al give you feedback? You best bet would be to contact VueScan to see if they could help. According to their website it’s supported. To clarify, I’ve never used VueScan, or tried to use a SCSI scanner in at-least a decade. If you do get this working feel free to post here so others can benefit from what you figure out. But you’d likely still need a driver from VueScan to actually use the scanner. At least that’s how it was in the old days. One driver to activate the card, and a second driver to activate the device attached to the card (if it’s anything other than a storage device) Quick and simple to do following your instructions. Vuescan is essential for the scanner driver. For film and slide scanning you need the Professional Edition. Supported scanners can be checked at. A free trial version can be downloaded to check whether it works with a particular scanner. He is very good at responding. Why make this so dam complicated. After a bit more looking, I see you need to run command prompt as administrator and type The parameter is incorrect. However it doesn’t show up even as an unformatted disk in the drive list in File Explorer.I’ve used this method mainly for connecting and formatting removable media, and emulated drives (e.g. SCSI2SD). Also Windows now blocks this as part of it’s default “secure boot policy”. I’ve found a few ways to turn that off, but it makes this method, way, way more complicated. So for now I’ve reverted back to the original method which still works. Thank you very much. Thanks so much!

When installing mul- tiple adapters, keep the following considerations in mind: If you are booting from a SCSI disk drive or an array sup- ported by the AAA-131CA adapter, then the adapter must be the card that the computer scans first. To operate a CD-ROM drive supported by the AAA-131CA adapter under DOS, you need The SCSI driver, aspi8dos.sys (version 1.27 or later) The CD-ROM driver, aspicd.sys. Use this option only if you want to run an ASPI program that specifies a higher number of concurrent commands. Displays information about the AAA-131CA and attached SCSI devices when the computer boots. Enables aspi8dos to recognize all eight possible LUNs asso- ciated with each SCSI ID. The name must exactly match the CD-ROM drive name in the mscdex command line in autoexec.bat. Adaptec provides the high- est quality SCSI cables designed specifically for use with Adaptec AAA-131CA Array adapters. For purchasing information, contact Adaptec: Adaptec, Inc. I’ve personally tested the Windows 10 driver for Adaptec AHA-29xx cards with an AHA 2940U PCI card. But, if you’re like me, and do have a bunch of old hardware, it’s good to know we can still use it on our modern systems to setup our aging systems for at least a couple of more years. Please comment to let me know what card you’ve used these with and did they or did they not work. Let me know in the comments if this worked (or not). I’ve updated this post with his suggested changes. I tested with a Iomega Jaz 2GB drive. (Figure 7) Am I missing something ? I had 2940’s but no more, so I decide to try with the 2906.

I got my old Minolta Dimage Scan Elite F-2900 to scan again after these drivers worked for my AHA-2930U SCSI card. I use VueScan software and it recognised the scanner without a glitch. I’m running Windows 10 Pro version 1903 OS Build 18362.207 My question, which hasn’t been addressed that I can see, is whether I need to intall an ASPI layer with Windows 10. I am running software on Windows 10 which I had running on Windows XP which is compatible with the Plextor drives. Thank you If you find something let me know. I assume this was installed when I installed Exact Audio Copy. I have been using EAC version V.095 prebeta which is a pretty old version, but have not experienced any problems ripping audio CDs to Windows 10. I think this is the only ASPI file required because ASPI32.sys is a 32 bit file, WOWpost.exe is required only for 16 bit programs and ASPI32.dll is also only necessary on a 32 bit system. I’m going to proceed with the tutorial you’ve provided, but have decided to use an Adaptec AVA-2906 card instead of the 2940UW. The AVA-2906 card has an internal 50 pin connector and doesn’t come with the bios as the 2940UW. Got my fingers crossed I was stumped from the beginning. Neither card could be inserted into the PCI Express slots of my Gigabyte Z370P motherboard thereby thwarting my well planned intentions.Greetings Frank The 29320LPE has a 68-pin VHDCI connector. The specs of these cards are all on Adpatec’s site including the connector types under the product specifications tab. Install was smooth and painless. Fantastic and thank you! Which keys do you mean (the special windows key or somewhat else). Unfortunately, I am not able to end up with the blue window “Choose an option”. However, you should also be able to press the windows key, select power, and “while holding down the shift key” select restart. Many thanks. Martin. When the system has rebooted yet again, log in and go to device manager and load the above drivers for your card.

This was successful for me for the following Adaptec SCSI cards: AHA2944, ASC29320,AHA2940W. What did not work were Adaptec ASC29160,ASC19160, and AHA2940U2. You can find the drivers for the LSI cards on-line. Not sure I can post them here as I didn’t write them and don’t know who did. They also worked for Win 7, and have been modified from the original LSI drivers. But the 29320LPE Ultra 320 is a PCI-Express card, and will also work under windows 10. The scanner has a HPDB50 connector, whereas the Adaptec has a VHDCI68 connector. Can you contact me by email, mine is: nounours18200ATyahooDOTfr Thanks After restart with switched on scanner the scanner works well. That was previously reported by Kurt as not working because it used a different chipset than the rest of the AHA-2940 cards. I’d suggest looking at getting one of the cards that has been tested by someone else as working. The first few times I booted the computer, the SCSI card was not being recognized in BIOS. After a few shut downs, it finally started showing the Adaptec pre-boot setup, so I went into the menu, and enabled the PnP option. It then showed up in windows and your driver installed ok. I am able to read MO disks. (My previous troubleshooting led me to do a fresh windows 7 install, which is when the card started showing the pre-boot menu, it installed ok in Win 7. After that I did a fresh install of Win 10, and it is working in that, too!) Thank you very much for this post and your response! It works very well, I use the card with some old scanners, a Canon FS4000US, Nikon COllscan II and Imacon Flextight. I recommend Vuescan for Scanning, Silverfast SE could not be started, the software doesn?t find the scanners, although the scanners are shown in the device manager. Thank you very much for your page with this information. Greetings from Germany Karl The board is OK in the Windows Device Manager and boots properly.

But the problem is that it does NOT detect my Canon FS4000 scanner: so I can’t go further. The scanner is setup on SCSI channel 2 with Termination ON. Do you have any idea. Thank you very much Several other people have posted above that they have had success with VueScan in getting their scanners to work. Good luck! If you select an SCSI ID with “Termination ON”, the scanner will not be detected by the Adaptec board. The settings of the Adaptec 29320-LPE should all be let “by defaut”. Hamrick from Vuescan currently studies the “Vuescan.log” files (both the log when connected with SCSI and the log when connected with USB) to be sure that the problem does not come from Vuescan. Regards Rene See the comment from Kurt: “My AHA-2940U2W has another chip set, and I could not solve the problem. It uses the driver aic78u2.sys (instead of djsvs.sys)” I can get the drivers installed but it lists the device with an.Rebooting doesn’t seem to resolve the issue either. The old computer I used to test my 2940 card with no longer works (failed power supply), so I’m not sure when I’ll be able to test this again. Hopefully windows hasn’t changed something that prevents the driver from working. My 29320LPE PCIe still works. When I remove the card the GPU functions fine. Anyone have any possible solutions? I’m going to assume you’ve gone through all the steps so windows can find and install an unsigned driver. If so, I’m not sure why it’s not working. Unfortunately you seem to be one of the first people to try it. I downloaded the driver, ran the.exe and it placed the drivers in c:\adaptec\scsi.I see in your pictures you have a jazz drive attached. Mine is a 1GB version but is not detected. I have Win10-1903 running. Any idea? Connected the internal Jaz drive via the back connector and it works. I will check my cables. Thanks for a working solution. SCSI card is AHA-2940AU. Worked beautifully under Windows 10 using this method. Great job, thank you for publishing and providing!

Everything I read on Winows 10 reviews indicated that SCSI was not supported. Then I found your site ??. Using your links I was able to find drivers for my Adaptec AHA-2920C PCI SCSI adapter. Following your steps I was able to install my Adaptec AHA-2920C SCSI card. Next up was to install my 1998 Minolta Dimage Scan Speed F-2800 film scanner. I found a Win10.inf driver for it and used the boot allowing unsigned drivers procedure to install it. It installed and is working. I installed the latest release of VueScan Pro and bang. My old scanner works! A lot of great film scanners are SCSI based and this gives them new life. I just build a system with one PCI 32bit slot but I only have 39160 (64 bit PCI). I seeking TxxBxx and paid for one piece of used 2940UW. I already tried the adaptec 78xx windows 7 driver but failed to install. Thanks for the sharing and I found the card and the attached scsi drive (IBM 4GB UW) is now working. The error I’m getting is “Windows could not find drivers for your device”. Any suggestions as to how to fix would be greatly appreciated. (I’m trying to recover some archived files from DDS2 media) Cheers, Wayne I’ve updated the blog entry so that the list of cards that have been tested as working, and those that didn’t work is now at the top of the entry. Software raid uses the CPU to handle any file processing needed. Which means during large file transfers you are consuming a lot of cpu resources. Hardware raid handles the file processing on the card, speeding up drive performance and freeing up the CPU.The card works like a champ in both operating systems. It's a solid PCI-X card and fits in my current motherboard's PCI slot without issues. I lose some performance but the older machine didn't have any PCI-X slots and I care more about reliability of data than transfer speed. If you end up buying one from e-bay (that's where I got mine 4 years ago), you won't regret it if you want to use an older machine. Here's a tip: you don't have to build your own RAID anymore. You can buy prebuilt RAID boxes with eSATA interfaces, for very reasonable prices. Maybe not at amazon, but elsewhere. Other configurations may also work, butFeedback, updates, andWhere possible, the drivers applicable to each device orIf the driver in question has aThis means that someEISA adapters are not. Compatible Mylex controllers not listed should work, but have not been verified.EISA adapters are not. Note that this controller can drive both SAS and SATA drives or a mix of them at the same time. The Integrated RAID Mirroring available for these controllers is poorly supported at best. The Fibre Channel controller chipset are supported by a broad variety of speeds and systems. The Apple Fibre Channel HBA is in fact the FC949ES card.

RTPMason 5.0 out of 5 stars I love the controllers. Now the Seagate 1TB drives I have on them, well that's a WHOLE OTHER STORY!!! I only use 1TB drives on these controllers (See below) and usually run as RAID 5 with extra drives as HOT spares. These controllers run on the larger PCI-X bus which is totally different than the PCI Express bus. The buses are physically different. The PCI-X bus has a much larger bus slot profile than the PCI Express and the buses are not interchangeable so make sure you get the right card for your bus. First, a 2TB LIMIT to the total array size. This means that even if you load up the array with four (4) 1TB drives, you can't get more than a 2TB array out of it. Second, a 1TB limit maximum on the hard disks that you can attach to the array and try to configure. Now I have read on the internet that some folks have said that they've been able to have two (2) 2TB hard disks installed and mirrored, but I couldn't get that to work.
